National Adoption Month: celebrating permanency and supporting reunification <\/h2>\n\t\t

November was proclaimed National Adoption Month<\/strong> in 1995. During National Adoption Month, we take time to honor the families who open their hearts and homes to children in foster care. Permanency is a critical goal for every child involved in the child welfare system, and at National CASA\/GAL, we recognize adoption as one of several paths to permanency. Reunification is the primary goal and a key path to permanency; when that is not possible, adoption becomes the next best option.\u201d<\/p>\n

CASA\/GAL volunteers advocate for the best interests of children, which includes supporting safe reunification when appropriate. Volunteers work closely with professionals and families to ensure that children have what they need during this transition, whether that\u2019s educational stability, mental health support, or a voice in court.<\/p>\n

Reunification is the most common outcome for children in foster care. When parents receive the support and resources they need to overcome challenges, children can return to a familiar environment where they feel connected and loved. This process strengthens families and communities, and it reflects the belief that, whenever possible, children should grow up with their families of origin or kinship care.<\/p>\n

While reunification is the preferred goal, it\u2019s not always possible. In those cases, adoption provides a loving, permanent home. National Adoption Month reminds us that every child deserves stability, safety, and a sense of belonging through reunification, adoption, or another permanency plan.<\/p>\n
