National CASA\/GAL's commitment during Human Trafficking Prevention Month<\/h2>\n\t\t

January is National Human Trafficking Prevention Month<\/strong>, a time dedicated to raising awareness about the pervasive issue of human trafficking and mobilizing efforts in prevention. At National CASA\/GAL, we recognize the critical role that CASA\/GAL staff and volunteers play in protecting children and youth in the child welfare system from the horrors of trafficking.<\/p>\n

As many as 4 out of 5 victims of child trafficking have spent time in foster care. Children and youth in the child welfare system are at a heightened risk of being targeted by traffickers. Factors such as unstable living situations, emotional vulnerability, and a lack of consistent, supportive relationships can make these children targets for exploitation. CASA\/GAL volunteers can recognize the signs of trafficking and find resources to help prevent exploitation.<\/p>\n

The National CASA\/GAL network is committed to the protection and well-being of every child in the sight of traffickers. National CASA\/GAL volunteers serve as the eyes and ears for children and youth in the system, providing a consistent and caring adult presence that makes a significant difference.<\/p>\n

CASA\/GAL volunteers’ dedication has led to numerous prevention stories. To locate a missing youth in Houston, one CASA volunteer posted flyers in every convenience store within a two-mile radius which resulted in the child’s safe return. Such stories highlight the profound impact a committed advocate can have on a child’s life.<\/p>\n

As we conclude National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, we call on communities, policymakers, and individuals to join us in our mission not only in January but throughout the year. By supporting National CASA\/GAL, you are helping to protect some of the most vulnerable children in our communities. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up free from exploitation and abuse.<\/p>\n
